WHILE YOUTH LOSE MONEY ON BAD GAMES + BETTING... WE HAD THE SOLUTION ALL ALONG 🪵♟️
LOCATION: Hosted by EYIT HUB with university students from MUST, BSU, MIU, Cavendish, MISD, and Victoria University came together.
WHAT WE DID: I brought Omweso - Uganda’s traditional timber board game - and taught it live. No screens. No money. Just timber, seeds, strategy, and culture.
Omweso is African. Omweso is affordable. Omweso is healing.
MY CALL TO GOVERNMENT:
Ministry of Education & Sports, Ministry of Gender, Ministry of Finance - Let’s put Omweso back in schools, youth centers, and communities. Teach our children games that build character, not empty pockets.
Big thanks to EYIT HUB for organizing and to all the students who showed up ready to learn culture.
I am Muhereza Valentine Kachaina, BAJMC, Masters in Diplomacy and Global Studies [MDG] - Still a student at Victoria University.
Through the Kachaina Mentorship Initiative, I’m ready to teach Omweso in institutions + online across Uganda.
We didn’t need betting to be happy. We had timber. Let’s go back to it.
